Attractions in Vienna
In Vienna, the capital of the European country Austria, there are more than 100 art museums, visited by a few million visitors per year. Amongst these you should see exhibitions in the Belvedere, the Albertina, the Leopold Museum in the Museumsquartier, the twins Kunsthistorisches Museum and Naturhistorisches Museum, the KunstHausWien, the BA-CA Kunstforum, and – last but not least - the Technische Museum Wien with its historical steam engines and cars.
Vienna calls itself the musical capital of the world due to the fact that many famous composers lived and worked in this town. Many popular sites are associated with these composers as Beethoven, Mozart, Schönberg, Mahler or Schubert. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has a memorial grave at the Habsburg gardens and at St. Marx cemetery, where his grave was lost. Maybe you are surprised to hear that also the Italian baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi lived for a while here in Vienna. He was called the “red priest” due to the color of his hair. Vivaldi died in Vienna, but was buried in a mass grave under today’s Technical university of Vienna on the Karlsplatz.
Famous churches in Vienna are of course the very old St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Karlskirche, the Peterskirche, Maria am Gestade, the Minoritenkirche, the Ruprechtskirche, and the Votivkirche. If you are looking for modern attractions youshould most definitely see the Hundertwasserhaus, the United Nations headquarters and have a view from the Donauturm with its slowly rotating restaurant.
